Dostana Reviews

fairly long, complex yet comical movie which
caters to all Indians going in for typically bollywood flicks. The twists in
the
movie are what make it so much more entertaining. This goes to show that
there’s more to being gay than meets the eye. The pace/flow of the movie is
altered to a great extent about 1 & a ½ hour in.

As the
name suggests friendship is the underlying factor although it isn’t the only
aspect of life that is focused on. Right from careers to relationships with
one’s mother, to live in partners; this film captures it all. It showcases the
happening, extravagant life in Miami:
parties, love life & the spendthrift mannerisms of all three characters.

The Music every two scenes & the flashy but
stylish outfits are what keep you upright with attention. The tune “You Dirty
Boy” echoes in your head even after it’s over & the impish expressions of
Abhishek Bachan ensure the smile isn’t easily wiped off the viewers face.

Characters:
John- This movie is guaranteed to increase John’s
fan following & it doesn’t just end there; this, will leave his fans coming
back for more. It would be unfair if I didn’t make a mention of how fit/toned
his body is making him the eye candy heartthrob. His acting deserves a rounded
8/10 especially when he’s forced to bring out “the girl” in him.

Abhishek- is incredibly convincing & in several
scenes I actually felt a metro sexual role would suit him just fine. His
outfits are bright (jhatku), cannot be ignored from a mile & blend in well
with his acting. His dancing skills along with that of John’s should be taken
note of in the song “Desi Girl”

Priyanka Chopra- I can’t decide if she gets better with each
movie because after fashion it’s not about improvement but rather her ability
to maintain her standard of the highest rung in the hot meter. If not the
figure fitting outfits that speak volumes of her beauty, consider the fact that
she’s not accessorized most of the time & wears only mono coloured
(non-printed outfits) throughout. She comes across with her character being
perky, cute, fun & contrary to this we see the shy girl who in the heart of
hearts wants a perfect fantasy dream boy.

Bobby
Deol – Plays the suave, rich, smart, and considerate, love struck
one who manages to balance work & spend time with his son Vir. Till the end
he does not exhibit any sort of rash, irrational mentality & his performance
in terms of acting as well as his character is debatable.

Boman Irani – attempting an “indian version” of the renowned Nathan Lane was
quite alright in his role. For me he wasn’t the “best” actor to portray a gay
boss but somehow pulled it off. Everything seemed a little too affected &
didn’t come naturally.

The Story:
The story begins when Kunal (John) & Sameer or Sam (Abhishek) are
forced to live under the pretext of being gay only because they desire to live
in the most gorgeous, well kept, spacious apartment. They live together for the
simple reason that both in their own respect aren’t equipped to pay for
independent apartments which are as breath taking.
In the course of time they both fall for Neha (Priyanka). Neha is so
taken up by her boss Abhimanyu
(Bobby) & once she finds out
the truth about 3 single attractive men not only in her life but 2 in her
apartment she’s left with the choice of a lifetime. While still under their gay
disguise Kunal & Sam try to eliminate their competition but love is always
complicated & somehow the third choice never disappears from the
background.

Neha faces the big question when she receives an unexpected proposal.
Who should she choose? Who will she choose? The ones she’s stayed with for a
longer part of her life & knows her better than the rest? or the one who
dashed into her life & dashes out just as fast?
